16 Rigid Connection, Beams Utilized As Bolts (Fast Version)

This playlist series focuses on the rigid connection calculation according to EN 1993-1-8. A comparison is made with Ansys at the end of the series after hand calculation. Finally, tips for applying the semi-rigid connection to RFEM are presented.

A portal frame with two levels is presented. The Endplate welded to the HEA200 beam is bolted to a HEB300 column with 6M20 class 8.8. Steel material is S355 for all parties.

In this video (Fast Version), the bolts are modeled with Beams in Ansys. The contents are as follows:

1. Beams used for bolt modeling.
2. Object Generator in Ansys of automation.
3. Checking the results for:
   1. Deformation,
   2. Von-Mises Stress
   3. Contact Tool
   4. Moment Reaction
   5. Beam rotational angle at support.
4. Comparison with the other methods regarding Contact Tool and bolt forces.
